Upon the release of the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) External results, the National Examinations Council (NECO) announced a strong performance, recording a 71.63 percent pass rate among candidates who sat for the examination. The examination body disclosed that a total of 68,364 candidates registered for the exercise, while 54,422 candidates sat for the examination across various centres nationwide.
According to NECO, the results reflect steady academic performance and improved compliance with examination standards, even as efforts continue to strengthen credibility and reduce malpractice in external examinations.
The Registrar and Chief Executive of NECO, Prof. Dantani Wushishi, described the outcome as a positive indication of candidates’ preparedness and the council’s commitment to maintaining quality assessment standards.

He noted that a significant number of candidates achieved credit passes in key subjects, further demonstrating the value of the SSCE External as a pathway for those seeking to complete their secondary education.
The council also emphasised that the examination was conducted under strict supervision, with enhanced monitoring mechanisms deployed across centres to ensure integrity and transparency in the process.
NECO added that the SSCE External remains an important opportunity for private candidates, including those retaking subjects or completing their secondary education outside the formal school system.
