The National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) has successfully conducted its first-ever Computer-Based Test (CBT) entrance examination for admission into Federal and state Technical Colleges across Nigeria.
The landmark exercise marks a significant step in the Federal Government's efforts to modernise technical and vocational education through the adoption of technology-driven assessment processes.
According to NABTEB, the computer-based entrance examination was introduced to improve the credibility, efficiency and transparency of the admission process while aligning technical education with global best practices.
The examination was conducted simultaneously at designated CBT centres, with candidates seeking admission into various Federal Technical Colleges participating in the exercise.
Speaking on the development, the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of NABTEB, Dr. Mohammed Aminu Mohammed, described the successful conduct of the examination as a major milestone in the ongoing transformation of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Nigeria.
He said the board processed and released the computer-based examination results within 72 hours, while the results of the conventional paper-and-pencil test were released within 21 days using the newly developed NABTEB aptitude placement test (NAPAT).
He noted that the adoption of computer-based testing would enhance the integrity of the admission process by reducing examination malpractice, speeding up result processing, and ensuring a more seamless experience for candidates.
“This achievement underscores our commitment to deploying technology in the delivery of credible, efficient and transparent examination services,” Mohammed said.
According to the registrar, the initiative is part of broader reforms aimed at repositioning technical colleges as institutions capable of producing skilled manpower needed for national development.
He added that the Federal Government remains committed to expanding access to quality technical education through innovative assessment methods and improved learning infrastructure.
NABTEB explained that the introduction of CBT for entrance examinations reflects its determination to embrace digital innovation while strengthening confidence in its examination processes.
The board also assured candidates and parents that adequate measures were put in place to guarantee a smooth, transparent and hitch-free examination across all designated centres.
Education stakeholders have described the development as another important milestone in Nigeria's ongoing drive to modernise examinations and improve the quality of technical education in line with the country's TVET reform agenda.
The successful conduct of the CBT entrance examination is expected to pave the way for wider deployment of technology-based assessments in technical education and other vocational training programmes nationwide.
