The Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, has celebrated Professor Segun Aina following his assumption of office as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
The university described the appointment as a proud moment for the OAU community, noting that Aina, a Professor of Computer Engineering at the institution, had quickly begun making an impact in his new role.
Aina assumed office as JAMB Registrar on July 31, 2026, succeeding Professor Ishaq Oloyede, who previously headed the examination and admissions body.
The Central Office of Research at OAU, in a statement titled “A Great Ife Professor Takes the Helm at JAMB,” congratulated Aina and highlighted his academic and professional background.
The university noted that Aina's relationship with JAMB dates back to his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) period, when he gained experience working with the board's admissions and data systems.

According to OAU, the new JAMB Registrar wasted no time in addressing outstanding complaints after taking over the leadership of the board.
The university stated that more than 5,000 pending complaints were resolved within Aina's first five days in office.
It added that the professor moved to the SERVICOM Unit at JAMB to gain firsthand insight into the challenges and complaints raised by candidates and other members of the public.
OAU said the early steps demonstrated Aina's willingness to listen to stakeholders and respond to issues affecting candidates.
“For us at Great Ife, this is worth celebrating,” the university stated while commending his early efforts at the board.
The institution said it was celebrating not only the appointment of one of its professors to a major national institution but also the early indications of a leadership style focused on responsiveness and effective service delivery.

Aina, 39, is expected to lead JAMB at a time when the board continues to oversee admissions to Nigerian tertiary institutions and administer the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
OAU congratulated the new Registrar and expressed hope that his tenure would bring improved systems, sound decision-making, responsive services and further achievements to JAMB.
“Great Ife is proud of you,” the university said in its message to the new JAMB Registrar.
