The Rivers State Commissioner for Education, Peters Nwagor, has expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) after personally leading an inspection tour of selected examination centres across the state.
The monitoring exercise, which spanned schools within and beyond Port Harcourt, was designed to assess compliance with examination guidelines and evaluate the smooth administration of the exercise organised by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
Speaking during the visits, Nwagor described the atmosphere at the inspected centres as peaceful, orderly, and conducive to academic performance, noting that candidates demonstrated appropriate conduct while invigilators and supervisors diligently carried out their responsibilities.

The Commissioner credited the enabling environment to deliberate government intervention, disclosing that the Rivers State Government had committed considerable resources and deployed strategic measures to ensure the seamless conduct of the examination statewide.
He used the occasion to appeal directly to candidates, urging them to remain focused and resist any temptation toward examination malpractice.
"The government has done so much to ensure the successful conduct of examinations in our schools. Students should take advantage of these efforts by concentrating on their studies and refraining from any form of examination malpractice," he said.

Nwagor confirmed that none of the centres visited recorded any incident of malpractice; a development he welcomed. However, he issued a stern warning that the absence of infractions should not be taken as a license for complacency. He cautioned that any principal, teacher, invigilator, supervisor, or examination official found engaging in or facilitating malpractice would face appropriate sanctions in line with established regulations.
The Commissioner also extended commendations to school administrators, teachers, examination officials, and security personnel for their dedication to upholding the integrity of the process, urging them to sustain the high standards observed throughout the exercise.
Schools visited during the monitoring tour included County Grammar School, Ikwerre/Etche; Government Comprehensive Secondary School, Borokiri; Government Secondary School, Borokiri; and Model Secondary School, Pabod.
