WAEC Defends 2026 WASSCE Results Credibility, Urges Public to Ignore Unverified Claims

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has defended the integrity of the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results, urging candidates, parents, schools and the general public to disregard unverified claims circulating on social media.

The examination body issued the clarification amid growing criticism from some content creators and social media commentators who have questioned the accuracy and credibility of the recently released results.

In a statement issued on Thursday by its Head of Public Affairs, Moyosola Adesina, WAEC said the 2026 WASSCE for School Candidates was conducted in accordance with its established examination procedures and relevant educational policies, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education.

The council explained that candidates' scripts underwent multiple stages of marking, moderation and auditing, with standardised marking schemes and oversight from vetted subject experts.

According to WAEC, these measures are designed to promote fairness, consistency and objectivity in the assessment of candidates.

Adesina said:

“The WASSCE for School Candidates, 2026, was conducted strictly in line with WAEC’s established standard operational procedures and in keeping with relevant educational policies in cooperation with the Federal Ministry of Education.”

The council acknowledged that candidates may naturally feel anxious about their results, particularly those hoping to secure admission into higher institutions.

However, it urged candidates and members of the public to verify information through official channels before accepting or sharing claims about the examination results.

Adesina added:

“While the Council recognises that anxiety surrounding examination outcomes is normal, especially for candidates whose expectation is to proceed further to the next level of their academic pursuits, careful consideration must be applied to discountenance unverified claims on the release of results.”

WAEC also disclosed that it has established procedures for candidates and other concerned individuals who wish to seek clarification or raise complaints about their results.

The council said candidates can make enquiries through its offices nationwide and its verified online communication channels.

The statement noted:

“WAEC maintains clear procedures for addressing queries or grievances. Guidance on query resolutions is available via the Council’s offices nationwide and online channels for information dissemination.”

WAEC advised candidates, parents, schools and other stakeholders with concerns about the 2026 WASSCE results to contact the council directly rather than relying on social media speculation.

The examination body reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the integrity of the WASSCE and ensuring that the interests of candidates who participated in the 2026 examination are protected.
