The institution has a relatively big student body and staff population, and admission into the university is quite competitive. The university usually accepts a JAMB cut-off mark of 170, which is higher than the 140 JAMB cut-off mark accepted by several state universities across the country. The university is unique not just for its quality infrastructure, electricity supply hostels, and college building with affordable tuition fees, but also because it has always required a four-year vocational and entrepreneurial study as part of the curriculum for its B.Ed., B.Sc.(Ed), B.Sc., and B.A (Ed) programs. As a result, graduates receive two certificates: one in their chosen field of study and another demonstrating their proficiency in vocational and entrepreneurial study.
