The examination bodies, West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) and National Examination Council (NECO) do organize Senior School Certificate Examination for private candidates. While WAEC organizes this Examination twice in a year as follows Jan/Feb and Nov/Dec NECO organizes its own once Nov/Dec.

This examination for external candidate does not require one to wear school uniform as it is not conducted by the school and the candidates are from different places and may not even still be in a school. The Exam is unique and challenging to most candidates taking them as they are no longer actively involved in school activities. Passing these exams requires that a candidate studies not just hard but smartly.

In this article, I will be writing on study strategies and study materials that will help a candidate pass GCE in one sitting.

Get Exam Syllabus:

As a candidate for an exam, the first thing you should do is to get details of the scope of work covered in the examination. You can get the syllabus from the exam body. This will help you in knowing the magnitude of the task ahead.

Draft a time table:

Having gotten details of the course content, divide the available period for study into 5, allocate 4 for main study and 1 for revision. For example, if you have a total of 100 days available to you, you allocate 80 days for studies and 20 for revision.

Further divide the available time into subjects.  Make sure you make out enough time for relaxation in between studies.

Gather study materials:

Ensure to use study materials that are syllabus based when reading to avoid spending energy on things that examination scope does not cover. It is good to read extensively when you do not have time constraint but in this article, we are assuming that you have limited time.
