The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has advised candidates who are finding it hard to pay online to quickly visit any of its offices near them to buy their registration PINs directly.
This warning came on Thursday, August 27, after several complaints hit the internet about transaction errors and failed payments on the Remita payment platform.
The issue blew up when an X user, @ayoadekanmi, raised an alarm online, warning that a recent upgrade on the Remita system was trapping people's money without generating the confirmation receipts needed to finish the WAEC registration.
"The new portal upgrade by @RemitaNET has triggered a massive nationwide collapse, trapping payments! Hundreds of students are about to miss the @waecnigeria registration closing TOMORROW Aug 28 because Remita absorbs cash but fails to generate validation receipts," the post read.
Responding directly to the post, WAEC provided an offline option so that students would not get left behind due to the network issues.
"Please visit the nearest WAEC office, including our Yaba office, to purchase a registration PIN," the council replied.
Normally, candidates buy their registration tokens online through the WAEC portal, and the PIN is sent straight to their email once the payment goes through.

However, with this latest update, any candidate facing issues with online payment can simply walk into any WAEC branch, get their PIN over the counter, and complete their registration before the deadline.
The situation also highlights a familiar challenge in online examination registration: cases where a candidate's bank account is debited but the payment is not instantly recognised on the registration portal. However, affected candidates are now advised to contact WAEC or visit an office to sort out their registration before the deadline closes.
