JAMB UTME CUT OFF MARK FOR INSTITUTIONS

JAMB UTME CUT OFF MARK FOR INSTITUTIONS

It’s one thing to pass the JAMB UTME, and another to get a JAMB score that will enable you get admitted to study your desired course in any University you applied to. The higher your JAMB score, the higher your chances of getting admitted.

Although JAMB is yet to hold its policy meeting on admission to tertiary institutions in Nigeria, which is aimed at deciding the cut off marks of various institutions based on the overall performance of the students in the just concluded UTME. Candidates are advised to refer to the cut-off mark of the previous year as a guide for their choice of institution. This is due to the fact that the cut off mark might be slightly similar to that of the previous year.

JAMB CUT OFF MARK

As the name implies, cut off mark is the minimum number of points that a person must score on a test or exam in order to qualify for a program. As it relates to JAMB, it is the minimum score a candidate must get to qualify for the Post UTME for their choice of institution. Below are the cut off marks assigned by the JOINT ADMISSION AND MATRICULATION BOARD in the previous year’s policy meeting;

INSTITUTION

CUT OFF MARKS

Universities ( Federal, State & Private)

140

Polytechnics

100

Colleges of Education

100

In spite of the fact that JAMB offers institution the liberty to set cut off marks of up to 220, none is permitted to go below the standard cut off mark of 140 and 100 for the institutions set by the board during the policy meeting. The board tries to make it possible for a good number of students to gain admission into higher institutions without jeopardizing the standard of education.

Most Federal and State Universities set cut off marks of 180 and above, making it difficult for candidates with scores below 180 but above the 140 JAMB CUT MARK, to gain admission to any University of their choice.
