The Osun State Government has rewarded outstanding students in the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) with scholarships and cash prizes as part of efforts to encourage academic excellence across the state.
The beneficiaries were honoured during the maiden edition of the Imole Senior Secondary Certificate Examination Scholarship Award Ceremony held at the Olagunsoye Oyinlola Hall of Osun State University in Osogbo.
Governor Ademola Adeleke, who addressed students, teachers, and education stakeholders at the event, said the initiative was designed to celebrate hard work, inspire students, and strengthen educational standards in the state.
According to him, the award scheme reflects his administration’s commitment to investing in education and rewarding excellence among young people.
“We are not just celebrating results today, we are encouraging a culture of excellence,” the governor said while commending the students for their performances in the examination.

The scholarship programme was organised by Electronic Collections Group (ECG) in partnership with the Osun State Ministry of Education.
At least 31 students drawn from the 30 local government areas of the state emerged as beneficiaries of the awards.
Each of the top-performing students received a cash prize of N100,000, while the overall best student was presented with N1 million for emerging as the highest performer in the state.
Teachers who prepared the students in the nine WAEC subjects were also rewarded with N50,000 each, while schools that produced the award-winning candidates received educational support materials.
Adeleke praised teachers, school administrators, and officials of the Ministry of Education for their contributions to the students’ academic success, noting that strong collaboration within the education sector was necessary to sustain improved performance in public examinations.
The governor added that his administration would continue to prioritise policies and programmes capable of improving learning outcomes and expanding opportunities for students across the state.

“Osun is at a critical time ahead of the election,” he said.
Speaking at the event, ECG Coordinator Akinmade Akintoye, said the award initiative would become an annual programme aimed at motivating students and promoting healthy academic competition among schools.
He explained that the list of awardees was obtained directly from the records of the West African Examinations Council to ensure transparency and credibility in the selection process.
Akinmade also noted that Osun’s education sector has recorded improvements in recent years, charging schools not to relent in their efforts to produce high-performing students.
“This is just the beginning. The sky is the limit for these students,” he added.
Parents and education stakeholders at the ceremony described the initiative as a positive step towards encouraging students to take their studies more seriously amid growing concerns over declining academic commitment among young people.
The event attracted government officials, education administrators, school principals, teachers, and students from different parts of the state
