WAEC Promise Not to Repeat 2025 WASSCE Glitches in 2026

The West African Examinations Council has assured candidates and stakeholders that the technical glitches that marred the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination will not happen again.

Speaking during a press briefing in Lagos on Monday, the Head of WAEC’s National Office, Dr Amos Dangut, said the council had introduced stricter safeguards and upgraded its operational systems ahead of the 2026 examination diet. He maintained that lessons had been learnt from last year’s disruptions, particularly issues linked to result processing and examination administration.

Dangut stated that WAEC had “perfected everything” to prevent a repeat of the problems that affected the release of the 2025 WASSCE results after technical issues were discovered in a paper serialisation system designed to curb examination malpractice.

According to him, examination centres are now expected to meet tougher infrastructural standards, including the provision of multiple power sources to ensure smooth conduct of the examinations. He added that all identified issues from the previous exercise had been corrected.

The WAEC boss also disclosed that the adoption of Computer-Based Testing for WASSCE had increased significantly across the country. He revealed that about 450 schools have now embraced the CBT format for the 2026 examination, compared to fewer than 40 schools in the previous year.

The council’s renewed assurance comes amid growing efforts to fully digitise examinations and restore public confidence in the integrity of the WASSCE process across Nigeria.
