NECO Schedules 2026 BECE Re-sit Examination for July - Check Exam Dates Here

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has announced July 22 and 23, 2026, as the dates for the conduct of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) re-sit for candidates with deficiencies in key subjects.

The decision was approved during the 2026 BECE Award Committee Meeting held at the Council's headquarters in Minna, Niger State, following the release of the examination results.

In a statement issued by the Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Azeez Sani, NECO said the re-sit examination will cover Mathematics and English Studies, giving candidates who failed either or both subjects another opportunity to meet the minimum requirements for admission into Senior Secondary School.

According to Sani, the re-sit examination is specifically designed for candidates with deficiencies in Mathematics, English Studies, or both, ensuring they do not lose an academic year due to poor performance in the compulsory subjects.

The Council explained that the initiative reflects its commitment to supporting students' academic progression while maintaining the standards of the Basic Education Certificate Examination.

The official statement stated;

“The Award Committee has approved the date and time for the 2026 BECE Re-sit examination. The Re-sit examination is scheduled to hold on 22nd and 23rd July, 2026, for Mathematics and English Studies.

"The BECE Re-sit examination is conducted for candidates who have conditional deficiencies in Mathematics or English studies or both."

“The Re-sit examination is to enable affected candidates remedy deficiencies in mathematics and English Studies, which allows them gain the necessary certification for admission and placement into Senior Secondary School (SSS1) without repeating a full academic year,” she said.

The announcement comes after NECO released the 2026 BECE results and the number of candidates who participated in the examination exercise.

Candidates eligible for the re-sit examination are advised to take note of the scheduled dates and await further guidelines from their respective schools and state Ministries of Education regarding registration and examination arrangements.
