JAMB New Age Policy: Schools can now Admit Candidates Turning 16 by August 2025.
Hurray! The management of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), has made a new policy regarding the admission age candidates who are 15 years old and will turn 16 years old by August 2025, can now be offered provisional admission to study in any Nigerian institution.
We can recall that a few months ago, JAMB's boss made a policy regarding the age, that only candidates from the age of 16 can be offered admission. But, as of today, the reverse is the case, as a new policy has emerged.
This new update regarding the minimum age requirement for admission into tertiary institutions for the 2024/2025 academic session was provided in a letter addressed to vice-chancellors, rectors, and provosts, which states that JAMB has made adjustments that allow institutions to admit younger candidates who will reach the required age within the specified timeframe.

The new rule has it that any candidate who will turn 16 years by August 2025, can be offered provisional admission to study in any institution in Nigeria. Therefore giving tertiary institutions the ability to admit qualified candidates who were previously ineligible solely due to restrictions following the former age policy.
This sudden change is to ensure fairness for students whose admission period might extend through August 2025, according to the letter from JAMB which was signed by Muhammed Babaji on behalf of the Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede.

Institutions are asked to review their CAPS (Central Admission Processing System) and submit a list of candidates who will meet the age requirement between January and August 2025.
This list should be submitted within a week of receiving the letter from JAMB.
The goal is to ensure that all eligible candidates have a fair chance, regardless of when they turn 16.
This new guideline ensures that no student is unfairly disadvantaged due to age restrictions as long as they meet the set academic standards.
