Statistics released by the examination body showed that 3,429 candidates, representing 32.72 percent, obtained credits and above in at least five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics. The result was considered an improvement compared to previous years, reflecting gradual adaptation to the computer-based testing model.
WAEC also revealed that the examination accommodated candidates with special needs, including visually impaired and hearing-impaired candidates, demonstrating the council’s effort toward inclusiveness in national examinations. In addition, the council disclosed that some results were withheld due to alleged examination malpractice, while several candidates had certain subjects still under processing because of identified registration or examination-related errors.
Although the news was first reported in March 2026, it remains evergreen because it represents a major turning point in WAEC’s digital transformation agenda. The successful conduct and speedy release of the CB-WASSCE results continue to serve as a reference point in discussions about the future of computer-based examinations in Nigeria and West Africa.
The development also strengthened public confidence in technology-driven assessment systems and reinforced WAEC’s position as one of Africa’s leading examination bodies embracing innovation to improve credibility, speed, and efficiency in academic evaluation.
