It is no longer news that at the end of each WAEC examination year, some candidate's results will be withheld or be considered outstanding.
To some students who already had plans of starting their University education with the results, this may seem to be a disappointment to them, but the big question here is What will you do to rectify this issue if your result is withheld or outstanding?
This post will take steps to look at the things that candidates in this condition should do to rectify it. So if your result has been withheld, or is outstanding, read this article and learn how you can solve this issue.
What does the term withheld mean in terms of WAEC results? If you are a candidate who took the WASSCE and on releasing of the result, your own was withheld, it means that you had failed to keep to the rules and the regulations that guide the examination conduct, be it in your examination center or caught in malpractice.
It also means that you have violated the rules that govern the examination, and the board in charge of the exam has come to know of that.
In other ways, some results are termed as Outstanding. If your result is outstanding, it is not the same thing as the result that has been withheld. So what does it mean when your result is outstanding?
OUTSTANDING result implies that the candidate did not supply the right information to WAEC on their script, or that the information they provided does not correspond with the information that is in the WAEC database.
Examples of the wrong information that can cause your results to be outstanding include examination number, center number, name, etc. Apart from providing the correct information as mentioned, it can also be a result of bad writing that may warrant your result to be put in outstanding.
Why does WAEC withhold some results, or keep some others outstanding? There are many reasons why candidates' results are considered outstanding or are withheld, you will find out that in this section of the post.
The following are the reasons behind the withholding of candidates results by WAEC:
When a particular center is considered to have been involved in an examination malpractice, such center’s examination can be withheld. This kind of withholding of results that arise from malpractice found in the examination center can affect all the candidates who took the exam in that particular entry.
In other ways, a particular candidate’s result can be withheld, if such a candidate was found or caught with examination malpractice, this type of withheld result will only affect the candidate that was found in the malpractice.
Another reason that will make a candidate or a center result be withheld is when WAEC receives a report of examination malpractice from that school, and that will make WAEC take time to examine the report, to find out if the report is true or not. That is why the result will be withheld for some time, and that does not mean that the result will not be released.
If the result is released, that will be after the WAEC investigations have been concluded on that report. After their meeting and scrutiny, two things will happen to that result;
The results will be released, if the report was a mere allegation of examination malpractice or it will be canceled if the candidate or school is found guilty of examination malpractice.
If your WAEC result has been withheld, you won't have much to do, but to clear all do this;
Let the principal of your school know that your result has been withheld, if you find out that other candidates' results from that center have been released and your own alone is withheld. Your principal can help you with advice on how to go about it or even help you write to WAEC.
You have to keep checking the WAEC website to see if they will release the result after a thorough examination of the body. Also, keep in touch with your school or examination center for the latest updates.
Not all results that are withheld by WAEC that is withheld forever, some of them can be released after WAEC has done their proper investigation and if you were not found guilty of malpractice, the result can be released, but in most cases, the result will not be released.
If you wait and pray for the release of your WAEC and after some months, it is not released, then I advise you to register for another examination.
Some students whose results are not withheld, rather find themselves in the shoes of those whose results are outstanding. What then happens when a candidate’s result is outstanding? And what can be done/
If your result is outstanding, you have only one thing to do, which is wait for WAEC to finish their check-ins on the result. One thing you must understand is that withheld results are not the same as outstanding results.
Outstanding result has the probability of being released immediately some of the errors in the candidate’s sheet have been rectified.
So as you know, outstanding results occur, when there are errors in the information of a candidate that conflict with his/her previous information, or there are corrections that the body wants to do, after the result is released, so wait for them and pray that the issue be fixed.
To bring it to an end, if your WAEC result is withheld or termed outstanding, you have little or nothing to do about it until WAEC finishes their checking and findings about the reasons why they withheld the result or why they feel that the result should be kept outstanding.
