NEW UPDATE: Contrary to the August 28 closing date cited in the viral post, WAEC's official registration portal shows that the deadline for the 2026 examination is Sunday, August 30, 2026, giving affected candidates slightly more time to resolve any outstanding issues.

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Nigeria, has extended the registration deadline for the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for Private Candidates, Second Series (WAEC GCE).

“Registration for the WASSCE for Private Candidates, 2026 – Second Series has now been extended to Friday, 28 August 2026,” the council said.

WAEC urged prospective candidates to take advantage of the extension and complete their registration before the new deadline.

The examination, commonly known as WAEC GCE, is designed for individuals who are not enrolled in regular secondary schools. It provides an opportunity for candidates to obtain or improve their West African Senior School Certificate and O’Level results independently.

Registration for the examination commenced on May 4, 2026. The latest extension supersedes the earlier deadline of July 31, 2026.

Candidates seeking to participate in the examination are therefore advised to complete their registration within the extended period to avoid missing the opportunity to sit for the 2026 second-series examination.
