As part of WAEC's effort to improve and modernize educational assessment processes, the council has announced its plan to introduce a biometric attendance system, which will help in actualizing its aim.
In accordance with an official statement that was made by the examination regulatory body on Tuesday, 25th May 2026, the move is part of ongoing innovation that is targeted at delivering world-class examination services, which will gradually replace the current electronic attendance system that depends on candidates' smart cards (identity cards).

Following this transition, the management said that smart cards formerly issued with embedded Result Checker PINs will no longer be provided to candidates sitting for the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates.
However, the examination body assured candidates that alternative arrangements have been introduced to guarantee smooth access to result-checking services. Candidates are advised to visit serial-pin.waec.org and input their examination details online to generate their Result Checker PINs for easy access to their results upon release.
The examination body further commended stakeholders for their unwavering support and collaboration in ensuring the smooth and credible conduct of the examination nationwide.
It emphasized that the continued cooperation of schools, parents, supervisors, and relevant authorities remains vital to maintaining the integrity and efficiency of the examination system.
As preparations for the 2026 WASSCE continue, the council reaffirmed its commitment to leveraging technology and improved administrative processes to deliver a more seamless examination experience for candidates across the country.
