The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), in partnership with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), is working to introduce a new framework that will make the process of changing candidates’ personal data more seamless, particularly during NYSC mobilisation.
The NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, disclosed this when he received the JAMB Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Professor Segun Aina, during a visit to the NYSC headquarters in Abuja.
Nafiu said the NYSC remains committed to strengthening its partnership with JAMB, describing the examination body as a major partner in the mobilisation of prospective corps members.
According to the NYSC Director of Information and Public Relations, Caroline Embu, the Director-General also congratulated Professor Aina on his appointment as JAMB Registrar.

Nafiu noted that Aina’s previous experience as a corps member, including his service with JAMB, as well as his professional background, would be valuable in his new position.
The NYSC boss explained that JAMB provides the primary data used by the Scheme for the online registration of prospective corps members.
“We thank the management of JAMB for their support over the years. We believe so much in the credibility of JAMB, and we have enjoyed seamless API data sharing with JAMB.”
Speaking during the visit, Professor Aina called for stronger collaboration between JAMB and NYSC to improve the services available to corps members and make their national service experience better.
Aina also reflected on his own experience as a corps member, saying his national service played an important role in shaping his career and preparing him for his current responsibility as JAMB Registrar.

The Registrar said JAMB would continue to maintain strict standards when handling requests for changes to candidates’ data. However, he noted that the Board would consider genuinely peculiar cases that arise in the course of the mobilisation process.
He stressed that such flexibility would not affect the integrity or credibility of JAMB’s records.
Aina disclosed that JAMB, NYSC and the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) are working towards a new framework that would make data changes easier to process.
The framework, which is expected to be unveiled soon, is aimed at improving coordination among the three agencies and reducing cases of data discrepancies encountered during the NYSC mobilisation process.

The JAMB Registrar also proposed the deployment of corps members to JAMB offices to assist as customer service representatives.
According to Aina, involving corps members in customer-facing roles would help the Board communicate more effectively with young people seeking its services.
“We want to speak directly to the young people, we want to speak the language of young people, and we need other young people to help us do it.”
He added:
“We want to build an army of customer service representatives by using corps members.”
The proposed initiative is expected to provide JAMB with additional support in dealing with candidates and other young people who require assistance with its services.
