At a time when public institutions in Nigeria are frequently scrutinised for inefficiency and lack of accountability, a prominent Islamic cleric has singled out the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board and its Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Olanrewaju Oloyede, as the exception. A rare success story that other government agencies ought to study and replicate.
Dr. Abdulkadir Solagberu, an Imam at the National Mosque of Nigeria in Abuja, has offered one of the most glowing assessments yet of Prof. Oloyede's stewardship at JAMB, declaring that the professor has elevated the examination board into a model of probity and service delivery within Nigeria's public service landscape.
In a statement he personally signed and issued in Ilorin, Solagberu commended Mr Oloyede for promoting probity and service delivery at the agency and described his tenure as the golden age of the examination body.
The cleric, who is the Malami Ubandoma of Ilorin and the proprietor of the proposed Darul Kitab University, went further in his commendation, painting a picture of an institution that has undergone a wholesale transformation under the former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin's watch.
According to Solagberu, Prof. Oloyede has worked so hard to promote JAMB to "a level that it has not only become the nation's most admirable and credible examination body but also a model for other public institutions."

The cleric described the former vice-chancellor as a good ambassador of the Nigerian Muslim community, an academic and administrator.
Beyond his professional record at JAMB, Solagberu drew attention to Oloyede's broader identity and responsibilities. He said he was particularly happy that the former Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin has proven to be a good ambassador of the Nigerian Muslim community and has not disappointed his primary constituency and the nation either as an academic or administrator.
The praise is notable given the weight of the positions Prof. Oloyede holds simultaneously. He urged Oloyede, who is also the Secretary-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs and Kuliyan Sokoto, to continue to work hard, saying that his place in the history of the nation's public service remains secured and glowing.
Mr Solagberu urged the JAMB boss to continue to work hard.
The cleric also used the occasion to issue a broader call to action for Nigerians. Solagberu, while saluting Oloyede's patriotism and creativity, urged other Nigerians, particularly Muslims, to emulate his sterling qualities for the nation to achieve its full potential.
The Imam wished Oloyede long life, sound health, and happiness to enable him to serve Allah and humanity for many years to come.
Prof. Oloyede has led JAMB since 2016 and has been credited with a dramatic overhaul of the university admissions process in Nigeria, including the introduction of a centralised and largely transparent computer-based testing system, a significant reduction in examination malpractice, and the remittance of billions of naira to government coffers, a feat previously considered impossible for an agency that had long been dogged by allegations of financial mismanagement.
The endorsement from Solagberu adds to a growing chorus of voices affirming that institutional reform, while difficult, is achievable within Nigeria's public sector, and that Oloyede's JAMB offers a working template for how it can be done.
