According to JAMB's Public Communication Advisor, Dr Fabian Benjamin, the Board policy meeting will still hold on Monday, 11th May 2026, and critical guidelines for admissions into tertiary institutions across Nigeria are expected to be adopted, including the decision of what the minimum cut-off marks for 2026/2027 admission should be for candidates.
He added that the meeting, which will be chaired by the Minister of Education, Dr. Olatunji Alausa, has gained international traction, as Sierra Leone has moved to study Nigeria’s centralised admission system with a view to adopting the JAMB model in its country.
“Tomorrow, Monday, 11th May, is a significant day as the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) will hold its 2026 Policy Meeting, to be chaired by the Honourable Minister of Education.
“At the meeting, guidelines for the 2026 admission exercise into all tertiary institutions in Nigeria will be considered and adopted, including the determination of the minimum tolerable scores for admissions.” - Dr. Benjamin stated
In his statement, Dr. Fabian revealed that Sierra Leone’s Deputy Minister of Education, Mr Sarjoh Aziz Kamara, alongside the Vice-Chancellor of Ernest Bai Koroma University of Science and Technology, Prof Edwin Momoh, and the Vice-Chancellor of Njala University, Prof. Bashiru Koroma, will be attending the Board's 2026 policy meeting.

These delegates from Sierra Leone are aiming to study the nation’s admissions and examination system as their country plans to create a similar examination regulatory body to streamline and coordinate admissions to tertiary institutions.
According to him, the delegation had already been taken through the Board’s examination and admission processes. In his words, he said;
“The delegation was today taken through the examination and admission processes at the Board’s headquarters in Bwari.
“During tomorrow’s Policy Meeting, they will also witness firsthand how critical stakeholders are actively carried along in the admission value chain.”
However, he added that the Sierra Leonean officials showed gratitude to JAMB for guiding them through, and accepting them to join the board's policy meeting. Noting that the JAMB structure will help them to tackle the challenges surrounding the growing admission population in their country.
