The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has unveiled plans to introduce a "Bring Your Own Device" (BYOD) option for candidates who will partake in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) beginning in 2027.
JAMB Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, announced the initiative during the 2026 Policy Meeting on Admissions into Tertiary Institutions held in Abuja on Monday.
Explaining the proposed innovation, Oloyede said candidates would be permitted to use their personal devices to take the examination, while JAMB would deploy a specially configured flash drive to ensure the security of the testing environment and prevent examination malpractice.
According to him, the model is expected to reduce operational costs, simplify examination administration and address concerns frequently raised by candidates about computer malfunctions during the test.

Meanwhile, Oloyede announced that Jesudunsin Owoeye from Ekiti State emerged as the highest scorer in the 2026 UTME after securing 372 out of a maximum 400 marks. Owoeye, who sat the examination in Ogun State, selected the University of Lagos as her first-choice institution to study Medicine and Surgery.
Although impressive, the score falls short of the 375 marks recorded by Chinedu Okeke of Anambra State, who topped the 2025 UTME ranking.
