The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Is-haq Olanrewaju Oloyede, will step down from office after completing a decade (10 years) of service at the nation’s tertiary admissions body.
The announcement was made by the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Said Ahmad, during the 2026 Policy Meeting on Admissions into Tertiary Institutions held in Abuja on Monday. She disclosed that the current policy meeting would be the last to be presided over by Oloyede as JAMB Registrar.
Oloyede, who assumed office on August 9, 2016, is expected to conclude his tenure after overseeing sweeping reforms that reshaped the operations and public perception of the examination body.
Speaking at the meeting, Ahmad praised the outgoing registrar for what she described as his transformational leadership and commitment to restoring credibility to the institution.
According to her, Oloyede’s administration brought significant improvements to JAMB’s finances, transparency and examination processes over the last 10 years.t

Under his leadership, JAMB recorded unprecedented remittances to the Federal Government. Reports indicate that the Board remitted N7.8 billion in 2017 alone, a sharp increase from the less than N50 million remitted cumulatively between 1978 and 2016.
The Board also generated over N20 billion in operating surplus between 2016 and 2026 while funding infrastructural and staff development projects through internally generated revenue.
Oloyede’s tenure was also marked by the expansion of computer-based testing, tighter monitoring of examination centres and efforts aimed at reducing examination malpractice across the country.
Before he was appointed as a JAMB Registrar, Oloyede served as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin from 2007 to 2012. He also chaired the Association of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities during his time in the university system.
His planned exit comes at a period when discussions about reforms in Nigeria’s tertiary admission system continue to dominate the education sector, especially following recent debates surrounding the conduct of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
Despite criticism in some quarters over technical issues recorded during the 2025 UTME, Oloyede maintained that accountability and institutional reforms remained central to his administration.
Stakeholders at the policy meeting applauded his contributions to the education sector, with many describing his tenure as one of the most impactful in the history of JAMB.
