JAMB Transition: Oloyede Leads Incoming JAMB Registrar Segun Aina on Nationwide Facilities Tour Ahead of Takeover

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has commenced a structured leadership transition process as the tenure of its Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, approaches its end, with the incoming Registrar, Prof. Segun Aina, beginning a nationwide familiarisation tour of the Board’s operational facilities.

The transition exercise, which involves both the outgoing and incoming Registrars, is aimed at ensuring continuity, strengthening institutional knowledge transfer and allowing Prof. Aina to gain firsthand understanding of JAMB’s nationwide operations before assuming office.

The tour has so far taken the team to Kaduna and Lagos, where the incoming Registrar was introduced to staff and key facilities while Prof. Oloyede formally presented his successor to employees across the locations.

During the visits, Oloyede encouraged staff members to support the incoming administration, assuring them that the transition process was designed to preserve the progress and reforms achieved by the Board over the years.

The first phase of the tour took place in Kaduna on Thursday, July 16, 2026, with the delegation visiting the JAMB Training School and the Board’s National Headquarters Annexe.

Addressing staff at the Kaduna office, Prof. Oloyede explained that the visit was part of efforts to familiarise Prof. Aina with JAMB’s operations and to maintain strong engagement with employees across the country.

He highlighted the importance of the JAMB Training School, explaining that the facility was developed from the Nasir El-Rufai Holding Halls located beside the Muhammadu Buhari 1,000-seat Computer-Based Test (CBT) Centre.

According to him, the facility was established to provide a permanent platform for staff training and capacity development beyond the annual Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) activities.

He added that the centre has modern learning facilities and syndicate rooms and has already hosted several capacity-building programmes, including training sessions for JAMB directorate staff and Institutional Registration Officers for Institutional Professional Registration Centres (IPRC).

Speaking during his visit, Prof. Aina described the Kaduna trip as a homecoming and commended workers for their dedication, professionalism and commitment to the Board’s success.

He urged staff to maintain the culture of excellence that has strengthened JAMB’s reputation as one of Nigeria’s most credible public institutions, assuring them that employees’ welfare would remain a priority under his leadership.

The transition team later moved to Lagos, where they inspected JAMB’s newly relocated Zonal Office in Ikeja.

Explaining the reason for the relocation from Ikoyi to Ikeja, Prof. Oloyede said the decision was taken to improve staff welfare and reduce the difficulties employees faced commuting daily to the former location.

He noted that many workers reside on the Mainland, adding that moving the office closer to them would improve accessibility, reduce stress and enhance productivity.

“If the Board is considering staff, staff should also put in their best in the service of the Board,” Oloyede said.

He also urged staff members to continue supporting the leadership of the Lagos office and expressed confidence in the ability of the Acting Director of the National Headquarters Annexe, Mr. Hakeem, to sustain the achievements recorded so far.

Hakeem appreciated the confidence placed in him and pledged to continue protecting the Board's interests while working toward its objectives.

The Director of Special Duties, Hajia Zainab Hamzat, also praised Prof. Oloyede’s leadership, describing his administration as transformational and visionary. She assured Prof. Aina of the department’s commitment and support as he prepares to take over the affairs of JAMB.

Speaking with staff in Lagos, Prof. Aina acknowledged the importance of their contributions to the Board’s operations, noting that JAMB’s activities directly affect millions of Nigerians seeking admission into tertiary institutions.

“You are the second outstation staff I am meeting. We were in Kaduna yesterday. Thank you for your service. The work you do is impactful because it touches the lives of virtually every Nigerian,” he said.

The incoming Registrar promised to build on the foundation laid by Prof. Oloyede by strengthening institutional reforms, improving staff welfare and sustaining efficient service delivery.
