The newly appointed Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Segun Aina, has announced plans to introduce a pre-registration mobile application aimed at making the 2027 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) registration process faster, easier and less stressful for candidates.
Aina disclosed this during his inaugural meeting with the management of the Board on Monday, August 3, 2026, where he outlined his plans to improve the examination body’s registration and operational processes.
The proposed JAMB Pre-registration Mobile Registration App is expected to allow candidates to complete key aspects of their registration from the comfort of their homes before visiting accredited Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres to complete the main registration process.
According to the Registrar, the initiative is part of his commitment to reducing the difficulties and frustrations candidates often experience during UTME registration and examination.
He noted that some of the challenges may be linked to communication gaps and other issues within the existing registration process.
When fully operational, the mobile application is expected to support faster sign-ups, offline data collection and instant validation. Candidates will also be able to begin the registration process from virtually anywhere using their mobile phones.

The app is also designed to use smartphone cameras to scan identification documents or tickets, making data capture faster while reducing errors.
It will reportedly have built-in checks designed to prevent incorrect data entry and detect irregularities during the registration process.
Aina said the proposed system had been designed in line with international standards and would help eliminate some of the rancour and stress associated with UTME registration.
The Registrar further explained that the new system would support profile management, result notification and other candidate-support services.
Under the proposed arrangement, candidates would be able to pre-register from home, while the physical registration process at accredited CBT centres would become significantly shorter.
JAMB said the physical process, which could previously take up to 20 minutes, is expected to be completed within two to three minutes once the new system becomes fully operational.
“I look forward to your objective and proactive input, your continued hard work, capable of taking JAMB to the next level.”
Speaking further during the meeting, Aina said he had no interest in frivolous matters that could distract the Board from achieving its objectives.
He reiterated his commitment to upholding the ideals upon which JAMB was established while building on the achievements recorded by previous administrations.
The Registrar also described his leadership approach as business-oriented, citing his background in business and the fact that he launched his first venture in 2010.
He said while he welcomed credible and practical advice from members of staff and stakeholders, he would not tolerate distractions or unnecessary issues.
Aina also said competence would remain a major consideration in his administration, noting that he was not interested in gossip because opinions could be either objective or subjective.
He stressed that he would not operate as a bully or a “know-all” leader, acknowledging that, like every human being, he could have personal flaws, preferences and prejudices.

However, he said such personal considerations would not be allowed to interfere with his professional judgement.
The Registrar further stated that his administration would consolidate the achievements of his predecessors while introducing new initiatives to move JAMB to the next level.
Although relatively young, Aina said he brings extensive experience in technology, academics and business to his new role.
The proposed pre-registration application is therefore expected to become one of the major reforms under his administration, particularly as JAMB seeks to make the UTME registration process more convenient, efficient and candidate-friendly.
